Writing styles – Alliteration

What is alliteration? It is the deliberate use of words beginning with the same consonant eg Julie’s Jewels, the Clean Queen. It can be good for thinking of titles for either short stories, esp those in women’s magazines, and children’s books for the younger age range, esp picture books.

So, here is an exercise for you. You have two choices:

1. Think of a title using alliteration that is ideal for a short story. Then write that story. Short stories for women’s magazines usually are from 1000 to 2000 words.

2. Or think of a title that is ideal for a children’s picture book. Then write that book. Picture books are usually only up to 1000 words.

Good luck. Let me know either via the comments, via Facebook or by email what you have come up with and how you get on.
